Who Are We?
Brainerd Lakes Area Youth As Resources is a board of youth and adults who process local grant requests from youth for projects that benefit the community.

Ideas, plan & action MUST BE of and by youth. Adult help can be asked for by youth.

Why?
- To build leadership skills among youth
- To empower youth to make a difference in the community
- To establish new working relationships between youth and adults
- To benefit the community with youth creativity and leadership

What?
Projects can address issues that concern youth and community:
- Build leadership skills in youth
- Raise self-esteem among youth
- Build relationships between all ages
- Strengthen our community
- Reduce drug & alcohol abuse
- Reduce the crime rate

Criteria used to make decisions
Projects must…
…be youth-led and designed
(youth being up to 20 years old)
…address at least one YAR priority area
…have a budget stating how dollars will be used
…meet an identified community need
…have specific end result with a final report back to the YAR board

Any unused $ will be returned to YAR.

Ideas - Anything is Possible!
- Organize an educational event
- Hold a fundraiser for a non-profit
- Plant a community garden
- Start a youth theater
- Create a space for kids to have fun - like a skate park

How?
1. Get an application from YAR
2. Complete & submit application to YAR
3. Make presentation to YAR Board
4. Decisions made monthly by YAR Board
5. Once you have the money, do your project!
6. Make reports to YAR Board
7. Celebrate the success of your project!
